This year, married couples were the stars at the 34th annual San Francisco Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Pride Parade.
Organized by Marriage Equality California, which is trying to legalize same-sex marriage, many of the couples marched carrying enlarged copies of their marriage licenses, and signs that explained their parallel lives.
“Engaged 13 years/Married Feb. 14.” “Partnered 22 years/Married 4 months. ” “Sweetie, grab the kids and come to City Hall.” “I’m proud of my lesbian daughter and her new wife.” “We love each other/We’re human beings/We’re married.”
Even though they had attended countless pride parades before, many of the new couples — and those cheering and crying along with them from the sidewalks — said Sunday’s was more emotional.
