Doomsday Drawing Near
To live my own life! To live without shame! To live without guilt! To live!
Today I went down to Ground Zero with some friends visiting from out of town. I hadn't been back since last October. The damaged buildings with their plywood covered windows caught my eye more than the ghostly space where the towers once stood. The people gathering by the thousands to witness something uniquely unforgettable drew my focus more than the haphazard memorials jumbled all along the sidewalks and fences. More than anything, it's the sense of something yet to be, of calm before the storm, of doomsday drawing near.
It haunts the mind.
