Human Beings not Ideologies

Homosexuality is an uncommon yet natural variant in all societies throughout all of time.

Heterosexuality's 'traditional family' has never been and will never be in danger due to the existence of homosexuality. Those who are right-handed have nothing to fear from those who are left-handed.

...human beings have historically excelled at finding ways to discriminate and tyrannize each other on the basis of genetic traits which have no inherent moral qualities to them. Being left-handed is not a sign that one is a scion of Satan; having black hair and dark skin as the Native Americans do is no indication of subhuman savagery begging to be tamed by the Catholic Church; mental illness does not mean you are possessed by the Devil...(from The Bogeyman of Gay Marriage by Robert Zimmer)

Children do not choose to be hetero- or homo-sexual due to early environmental influences. The vast majority of gay children grow up in heterosexual families.

Senator Rick Santorum's comments on homosexuality last year are well built for those who want to continue labeling homosexuality a sickness detrimental to society's future. For those who are homosexual or have homosexual relatives/friends, Santorum's comments are empty for we know from first hand experience that love between two people, regardless of the body parts involved, is good and noble and sacred, not only for those in love but also for society and its children.

This is why the gay liberation movement despite its small number of advocates has such success. They/we do not advocate for an ideology as much as we advocate for human beings. Ideologies come and go and homosexuals, being a diverse lot, subscribe to many differing ideologies, yet it is their/our humanness which wins peoples' hearts when they come to know us. You see, they/we advocate on behalf of humanity which, like it or not, naturally includes homosexuals.

It is irrational religion and irrational fear and irrational ignorance which says, sometimes even eloquently, otherwise.

I think that you may have put into words what I could not. For a while, I've been experiencing frustration with those who wish to restrict my rights and limit my hapiness, but I've been unable to put my finger on why that is. I'm an extremely liberal person and listen to every opinion and viewpoint that others offer. However, lately I find myself turning the channel, hanging up the phone, or ending the discussion because I can't bare to listen any longer. It's the IRRATIONALITY that confuses, flusters, and angers me.

Thanks for assisting in the realization. Hopefully it will help me tolerate the unfortunate who do not see the world as I do.
