Gay Married Couples

This year, married couples were the stars at the 34th annual San Francisco Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Pride Parade.

Organized by Marriage Equality California, which is trying to legalize same-sex marriage, many of the couples marched carrying enlarged copies of their marriage licenses, and signs that explained their parallel lives.

"Engaged 13 years/Married Feb. 14." "Partnered 22 years/Married 4 months. " "Sweetie, grab the kids and come to City Hall." "I'm proud of my lesbian daughter and her new wife." "We love each other/We're human beings/We're married."

Even though they had attended countless pride parades before, many of the new couples -- and those cheering and crying along with them from the sidewalks -- said Sunday's was more emotional.

"People were screaming, 'Congratulations!' and crying as we walked past," said Chari Davidson, 48. ~excerpted from Joe Garofoli's article on SFGate.com.
