Evil in the Name of God

Recently, I came across a disgustingly all too common vile viewpoint promoting homosexuals as evil 'in the name of God'. The article is entitled God's Plan for the Gay Agenda by John MacArthur. I found it on the website: Crosswalk.com - a religious for-profit corporation. The following is my emailed response:

'God's Plan for the Gay Agenda' article on your site promotes not 'faithfulness' or 'righteousness' or 'God's view'. It promotes ignorance, evil, violence, suffering and continued oppression of gay, lesbian and transgendered people. You will be judged by history as no better than those who advocated segregation/racism in the name of God or the evils of left-handedness in the name of God. The first remembered now as shameful; the second remembered now as absurd.

Ignorance is the root of all evil and 'men of faith' spread it like no other. No one speaks for God. Fortunately, more and more moderate sane religious folk are prevailing in those nations where education is strongly valued. Soon you and your kind who still refuse to educate yourselves with the facts about your gay children will either seclude yourselves en masse in Utah or Nevada or begin desperately advocating outright violent acts against gays, lesbians or anyone else you deem unclean, untouchable, inferior, impure or unchosen. Either way, your ugly perverted world view loses.

Stop lying to yourself about the infallability of the bible. Surrounding yourself with only those who will reinforce your rigid dogmatic simplistic views about the complexities and mysteries and messiness of life is cowardly and fanatical. Embrace and accept your gay children, neighbors, cousins, friends and coworkers without exception. Gays acceptance as a natural normal small variant in all societies is not a sign of the The End Times but a sign of evolving understanding of the human condition - its vagaries and its diversity.

Again, just as men of faith proclaimed the mentally ill simply to be possessed by demons or cursed by satan, so to are men of faith now proclaiming the same tragic defamations upon innocent gay people. It is morally wrong and evil.

I am a gay child of God who will not stand by as you and your kind spread your misinformation, fear, xenophobia, homophobia, ignorance and altogether arrogant misbeliefs. You are wrong. You are increasing the suffering in this world. And just as racism will never be completely eradicated, so religiously inspired homophobia will always exist. However, your eventual marginalization is certain.
