Arguing 4 the Gay Agenda w/Apples & Oranges
What statements do I hear or read over and over when people object to gay human beings in one form or another? I discredit a few here or at least address them. I won't waste my time on the one that generally goes, "well that's just what I believe". Everyone is entitled to their own opinions but not their own facts.
EX: The Gay Agenda and the Civil Rights Movement should not be compared.
gays, blacks, jews, women, the disabled and any group who've fought or continue to fight against unjust laws or irrational societal beliefs share the same similar struggle in that the root cause of their oppression is almost always ignorance mixed with fear. those who object to comparisons between the struggles of different minorities for civil rights are shallow thinkers. it is obvious and clear that what's important is not who suffered more or suffered more dramatically or has the larger number. What's important is that these peoples share the same nemesis: ignorance mixed with fear.
EX: Gays Speaking Out Are Militant And Out-Of-Touch.
democracy in action i'll take. i don't expect gays to achieve full equality under the law in an instant. i know the pace of history. just as it must have been difficult for anyone born in a time when they were blatantly segregated in various ways by various laws, i must accept that this is the 21st century and not the 22nd. i must be patient but not complicit in the ancient ongoing fears, superstitions and medieval world views still alive around me.
EX: Gays Are Doing Their Cause More Harm Than Good.
i am fortunate to have seen through some of the bigotries of my society and even family. Because I am fortunate I feel it my duty to stand up and call falsehood out. popularity isn't my agenda, equality is. i do not believe i am superior because i say something is shamefully wrong, i am simply compelled to stand up for my gay family, friends, children, and other loved ones unable to do so. most people would do likewise in similar circumstances unless of course they were cowards and there's lots of them unfortunately these day.
EX: Society Is Protecting The Common Good By Banning Gay Marriage.
segregation wasn't the cool collected diagnosis of a thoughtful white society simply trying to do what was best for the greater good. segregations was the product of ignorance mixed with fear called racism and which grew into white supremacy. saying majorites have weighed the impact of gay marriage thoughtfully and fairly is seeing with rose colored glasses.
EX: The State Would Be Endorsing Gay Marriage By Allowing It.
the state will not in the end be endorsing gay marriage when they overturn those laws banning it just as they were not endorsing interracial marriage when those laws were overturned. what the state will be endorsing however is the belief that gay human beings, like blacks, are in fact undeserving of the rampant and unfactual character assasinations propping up homophobia as it did Jim Crow racism. We must be accorded the same protections and priveleges afforded any other citizen in good standing wishing to marry their loved one.
EX: Gay Marriage Would Lead To Legalizing Poloygamy Or Promote Beastiality.
talk of polygamy and beastiality is an empty argument, a ruse cleverly used to muddy and distract from the noble serious endeavor of evolving and expanding the majority's understanding of what it means to be human and treated equally as a human under the same laws.
EX: You Can't Say That. That's As Different As Apples And Oranges.
apples and oranges are both eaten, peeled and often stepped on aren't they? exactly.
