Homosexuality On Trial

Tomorrow, the federal case filed by the American Foundation for Equal Rights seeking to overturn California’s Proposition 8 begins winding its way through the courts, likely ending up before the U.S. Supreme Court. (Read more here about the risks and reasoning behind the case known as Perry v. Schwarzenegger.) With the upcoming debate in mind, Gay Rights Media presents the tour de force mock trial ‘Homosexuality: The Verdict Is In. Not A Sickness! Not A Sin!’ produced by SoulForce.org with Mel White.

“Before a judge and a jury, anti-gay charges are presented by more than a dozen public figures who have attacked God’s gay children in television specials and on nationally distributed video tapes. The most recent biblical, medical, psychiatric, psychological, and scientific evidence is presented to combat the myths and lies often used against gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender persons by anti-gay religious leaders and institutions. Come and hear the evidence and decide for yourself!” via SoulForce.org

Pastor Tolton on Spiritual Violence

“For those of us in faith who have always loved the black church, the defining issue of our lives has been the churches damning stance on [being gay and lesbian].  As children, the condemnation broke our spirit. As adolescents, this ridicule broke our hearts. As young adults, this disdain has attempted to drive us to the brink. Spiritual violence is wrong and it kills the spirit. The black church must find new ways to talk about sex and sexuality,” writes Pastor Joseph Tolton of Rehoboth Temple in response to the homophobic rants of gospel singer Donnie Mclurkin.

Extreme Anti-Gay Humiliation and Hazing by Military Leadership

Joseph Rocha: When Silence Leads to Abuse

Thousands of miles away from the United States, being subjected to extreme humiliation by my own military leadership, I did not feel hatred. I felt fear. Fear they would hurt me and no one back home would ever know. I had no gay friends to talk with and no gay personal life. I was only 18 years old, and I was afraid if I told anyone, I would be kicked out for being gay.” ~Joseph Christopher Rocha
